HDC Trip to Denmark

On Tuesday the 30th of June staff members Gavin Erith and Steve Kingfisher flew to Copenhagein in Denmark to take part in a Study Tour organised by the HDC/AHDB. Whilst there they visited nurseries who take advantage of Cold Storage techniques to improve the shelf life of their plants and examined how it could possibly be used in the UK. There were also representitives from John Richards, Bordon Hill, Wyevale and AHDB Horticulture.

On the 2 day trip they saw how continental growers manage their nurseries on such a large scale, from how they move stock around the nursery to the logistics of their deliveries. Steve and Gavin were impressed at seeing 5 lorries leaving a site each day and machines moving hundreds of hydrangeas in one go.

The HDC can look into the feasability of similar trips. If you are interested you can see their website for more details.
