Waterwise Awards 2016
Howard Nurseries Ltd., the UK’s foremost hardy perennial specialist from Wortham, Norfolk are delighted to announce that at the 2016 UK Waterwise Water Efficiency Awards held at the House of Lords on Tuesday 1st March, they were the proud winners of the Environment Agency’s Chairman’s Award for Water Efficiency, the highest award available in the UK for their 100% self-sufficient reservoir and water management system. They were also delighted to win the Farming and Horticulture award for the same project, beating off stiff competition from hundreds of other companies in both categories.
The naturally clay lined reservoir contains over five thousand Norfolk reeds, ten thousand fish, twenty-four different recorded species of wildlife, various varieties of plant life and holds over forty-eight million pints of water. The water management workings are fully powered by forty solar panels that run alongside a fully automated irrigation system.
The UK Water Efficiency Awards recognize the achievements of public, private and third sector organizations in promoting water efficiency, managing demand and saving water.
