Chelsea Flower Show 2016
Howard Nurseries Ltd at Wortham near Diss have been busy growing for a garden, designed by Matthew Wilson, that can be visited on the Main Avenue of the 2016 Chelsea Flower Show. The garden, sponsored by “Welcome to Yorkshire”, takes inspiration from the best of Yorkshire and recreates elements of the east window of York Minster. A replica of the east window in the garden will be 3.3m high and 4.5m wide and the series of beds in the garden have been planted to replicate the colours of the stained glass.
Some plants came from a customer of Howard Nurseries, Newby Hall, based in Yorkshire, whilst others are from the Howard Nurseries range of plants. You can be sure there will be plenty of bearded irises whose opulent flowers have a jewel like quality that you see in the colours of the window. Timing the opening of the irises for the show always needs gentle and careful handling by our staff, especially when wrapping each head in tissue paper!
The highlight from the show was the garden being selected as the People's Choice Award 2016.
