Gold at RHS Chelsea
This morning (Tuesday 19th of May)we found out that ours and Sarah Cook's display of Cedric Morris Irises won a Gold Medal at RHS Chelsea.
Judging day started with a visit from Plant Heritage supporter Alan Titchmarsh who was very interested in the project. He is the face of Plant Heritage's Threatened Plants Appeal which seeks to preserve the diversity of cultivated plants. Many of the varieties of Cedric Morris Iris which Sarah displayed will be available to the trade from next year.
The tensions were high when everyone was cleared off the display as judging began but it was all worth it when the news came through today.
This display was also a great advertisement for Peat Free gardening as all the Irises on display were grown and potted using Peat Free Melcourt Sylvamix potting compost.
